You would think that most people would know that if you saw somebody do something really stupid, and it ended in disaster for them....that if they in turn did the exact same thing, it would probably end up in disaster for them as well. Sounds reasonable enough...right?
Look at it this way....if you see someone driving like a maniac on the highway...swerving in and out of traffic...then down the road a few miles, you see that person's car in a ditch....common sense would dictate..."hmmm, that must mean that if I drive like that...I could very likely end up in a ditch. Simple enough...right?
So why doesn't that work for us?....Because we think that if we drive like a maniac....it won't happen, because somehow OUR maniacal driving is far better than the other guy's maniacal driving, so there is no way that we will ever end up in a ditch.....Seriously?
Some of you are saying about now...."I wish I had another cup of coffee"...or... "what am I going to eat for lunch?".....I don't know why you would be saying that unless you aren't paying attention.....because if you were paying attention, you would be saying to yourself..."what is this guy talking about?...or..."why is he writing about driving?"....or maybe even..."is this guy nuts?"......but I digress....
My point is this....we have the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others whether it concerns our driving on the highway or they direction that we are taking our country...We don't have to make our own original version of all of the mistakes that have ever been made. Why wouldn't we want to simply learn from history? I look at the direction that a lot of people in our country think that we should be headed, and I want to yell out loud..."hey you...you're going to end up in the ditch a few miles down the road"...(now you're saying "ahhhh...now I get the whole driving thing...he is attempting to tie the two together"...if you're not saying that at this point then seriously...go get that other cup of coffee and firm up those lunch plans...ok?).....Why is it that our President and so many in Congress think that they are above the fact that history repeats itself?
Ok...put history aside for a moment...here is a fact...If you spend more money than you take in, you WILL go broke. With me so far? Isn't that the way it works in your house? At some point at my house we have to say..."sorry, as much as I would like to have that...I can't afford it"...Those are words that most politicians don't seem to have in their vocabulary. Of course when it's someone elses money, it's much easier to spend it. And by the way all of you "elected officials"...that's MY money, my son's money, my grandchildren and great-grandchildren's money that you are spending....NOT YOURS !!!! You work for me...so don't go around wasting my money.
Yes free healthcare for the entire universe would be very nice.....but here's the clincher....WE CANT AFFORD IT. There are a LOT of things that would be great....but we cant afford those things either....so STOP IT. Go visit some other countries that have "free health care" and you will see that it's free for a reason....it isn't worth anything. I recently spent 2 weeks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.....they have government health care....it's great....that why millions of people die from simple water-borne diseases.....right? It's also why (this is the honest truth, I have pictures)...this fantastic "free" health care system in that country has helped create a marketing niche that we just don't see here in the U.S.. Yeah...it's great...you see, directly across the street from the larger hospitals...you can walk over and buy funeral flower arrangements. Yup...one stop shopping....leave the hospital from visiting your sick relative and go right across the street and buy flowers for the grave....Now THAT my friend is government efficiency.
When you destroy capitalism....people dont have jobs.....when people dont have jobs.....they don't have money....when people dont have money....they cant pay taxes....when people cant pay taxes....(pay close attention here)....when people cant pay taxes...It doesnt matter what the government promises...they cannot deliver it. PERIOD. That my friend (I really hate when people say "my friend" when I doubt seriously that they are really my friend...and here I find myself saying it).....where was I?.....Oh yeah....THAT, my friend....is how we learn from other people's mistakes....why do we think that we can do the same STUPID things and come out of it with a better result? I think everyone that is buying into this socialist agenda of Obama, Pelosi and company....should be forced to go to a place like the DRC and live for a while....experience the outcome of the government running everything (into the ground).....Maybe then....(that is doubtful for some of them)....but maybe a few would see that if you steer our country into a ditch, the outcome is the same as any other leaders that have steered their countries into a similar ditch........Then Again....That's Just Me
It was a mere 20 years ago that we celebrated the fall of the greatest socialist republic the world has ever known. The worker's paradise of the Societ Union surived a mere 70 years, and that only because of the ruthless willingness of its dictators to subject people to extreme shortages of everything from food to medicine to housing to consumer goods in the name of national defense. Socialism simply doesn't work. The government can make all the 5-year-plans it wishes; they will fail. And to your point, there will not be sufficient tax revenue for even basic government, nevermind the liberal largesse this crowd is proimising.
ReplyDeleteAnd when the government can no longer meet its commitments, the bills will go unpaid. What is the largest bill, and perhaps the most likely to go unpaid? Our national debt. And who is our primary creditor? China. And what will China do when we neglect to pay our debts to them? They will foreclose on this entire country, peacefully or not so much.
Makes you kinda wish we'd live within our means, and let the American system do its powerful work.
Since driving is so subjective given the varying driving skills of folks, let
ReplyDeleteus use a more common idea as an opening example, Gravity. If you throw
a brick in the air over your head, when you awake in the hospital with
a concussion, you will be a believer in the concept of gravity. Thank
God, for men like Isaac Newton and others, we do not all have to suffer
concussions to understand the concept of gravity and benefit from it.
The principle of common results for common actions applies and elsewhere. However,
if some are of the stubborn sort, a concussion may be just the ticket
to get their attention. The problem lies in the fact that government
stubbornness is collective, which means all (not just the stubborn or
ignorant) have to suffer the same reoccurring concussion for the
stupidity of public officials. That's a concept that is not particular
tasteful to me seeing how I perfectly understand the concept of Gravity
without the proverbial concussion. Now some of you are probably saying
to yourselves, this example is too simplistic, the problems facing our
country are far more complicated then that. Are they now?? I know the
ego of America hates the thought that we are not above the common
problems of the rest of humanity (after all we think we are the
GREATEST country that ever existed). Buuuuuuuuut, most problems facing
societies today and throughout history are common to all humanity and
always have been. The problem of health care availability is no
exception. We have a plethora of examples, not only in history but in
the present, all around the globe, of socialized, government sponsored
health care or government sponsored programs of many sorts (I am
contracted to the federal government in my present career so I have
first hand knowledge of the inefficiencies and inabilities of
government efforts in many areas). Their failures are catastrophic and
very apparent. Yet despite these GLARING failures and the virtual cliff
that lies ahead, this Congress and Administration barrels headlong
towards destruction, selling the idea of this politically based
National Suicide as the best thing since sliced bread. Wake up America,
the cliff is upon you!!!!!!!!!!
