I recently decided to open
a Twitter account. I have even more recently, considered NOT having a Twitter
account. Why you may ask?……Well only since you asked, let me tell you………..
One of my main problems
with Twitter is that I have serious issues with being limited to saying what I
think, within the confines of just 140 characters. In my opinion it makes
Twitter the equivalent of a drive-by shooting….only with words. Another thing
is that I have NEVER seen so many angry and ignorant people, gathered in one
place, other than at an Occupy Wall Street event. Yes there are some really
cool people….who say some really cool and funny stuff, but then you have 5
idiots who make their “drive-by” comments and ruin the whole thing.
Here’s an example…….
I saw a posting...(is that
the correct term?...or is it a tweet?...if it’s really a “tweet”, then I’m
going to stick with the word "posting")…..from Representative Allen West that read as
follows…..
Allen West:
"Obama’s release of a known Hezbollah
terrorist is an “utter betrayal”
I thought…..hmmmmm, I like
that….so I “retweeted” it (there I went and used that word…arrrggggg). I NEVER
thought anyone would respond in the way that @JEBocanegra1 did…But obviously,
what do I know?…..
Out of nowhere I get this……
JEBocanegra1: “he’s a disgrace to America
and to the uniform”
To which I politely
replied….
Dlogang59: “what
fact do you have to back up your claim JE?”
Here’s where it got weird….As
if its not already weird that I’m talking to someone about someone else…whom
NEITHER of us know personally…..Please continue reading, you’re gonna’ love
this…..
JEBocanegra1: “what facts do you have to
back up yours?”
Dlogang59:
“seriously? That's your response? How
about public record? BTW didn't say you were wrong,just asked about your facts”
JEBocanegra1: “Here are some facts: west
voted not to raise debt limit and lost US AAA rating, west voted to water down
VAWA, more?”
Dlogang59:
“you're not very intelligent are you? You
don't ruin your credit rating by refusing to get further into debt”
JEBocanegra1: “What TeaBaggers refuse to
understand is that our Govt. is not a business besides @georgebush ran up Debt, not a word?”
Dlogang59:
“not a word because I have more important
things to do than argue with an idiot whiner”
Dlogang59:
“not a
word because I have a business to run...so I can pay taxes to pay for your food
stamps”
Dlogang59:
“not a
word because I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with someone who is
obviously unarmed”
JEBocanegra1: “My, how testy you a**holes (editing
mine) get when I mention Bush, your idiot incompetent deserter, we mustn't
forget him”
Dlogang59:
“it
wasn't over the mention off "Bush", it was you overall ignorance that
I responded to. Name calling?”
JEBocanegra1: ”You insulted me first but
disregard that fact like you disregard @georgebush as the cause of our economy tanking”
Dlogang59:
“are
you in the 3rd grade?”
I’m pretty sure after that
exchange, I won’t be getting a Christmas card from JEBocanegra1. Let me state
here…for the record….that Rep. West probably doesn’t need my help in defending himself….AND that maybe I should have left it at that. But I didn't, so here’s my point…..
Is this what we have
become? A bunch of opinionated, angry, insulting adults with the mentality of 5-year-olds?
I know that I have my moments….but really, can we try to keep it civil? Yes, I
disagree very strongly with most Liberals, and I have close friends who are
liberal in their leanings, but we manage to talk to one another without being
downright hateful. It seems that on Twitter (and on Facebook
to a lesser degree) people just think its ok to say whatever pops into their head
(I had to delete the word “pea-brained” right before the word “head”) no matter
whether they know it to be true or not.
So now you know all about
my first time……And as far as I’m concerned, my days on Twitter, could be very
limited…..especially if I have to interact with any more “twits” (that is the
correct term isn’t it?) like JEBocanegra1. Then Again….That’s Just Me
